My company is moving from PC stations to mobile devices on our shop floor. This move has been met with some resistance...
from employees who are used to the stationary computers. Do you have any advice for making mobile deployment easier?
I believe that some resistance should be expected. But, if the business processes in question are good candidates for mobile technology and the applications meet the needs of the business, the majority of employees will eventually support the change.
With any new system, the key is to manage the change process in order to create more employee ownership from the start. First, management must communicate to employees that they support the project. It is equally important to involve employees in the technology decisions that will affect them. This means that key end-users should participate in the software and equipment selection process, as well as the design and testing of the new system. They should also understand the system well enough to train other users prior to going live.
