At a high level, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are especially sensitive to the need for budgeting, planning and forecasting tools that do not require direct IT support. Based on this, smaller organizations should consider corporate performance management (CPM) systems that have a good reputation for ease of use and ongoing satisfaction, such as Board, Prophix and Salient. In addition, a new generation of cloud-based CPM vendors are starting to emerge that provide an easy-to-implement option that also have the ability to scale to the enterprise level, such as Adaptive Planning and Host Analytics.

Although the vendors mentioned above all have experience in supporting CPM deployments that scale to thousands of users, there are also a number of other vendors that are well-suited to support large deployments. Oracle, IBM and SAP all have strong CPM offerings and are quickly developing increased mobile and analytic capabilities in a three-way arms race. In addition, Exact-Longview, KCI Computing and Tagetik are all known as standalone CPM vendors with experience in supporting large companies.
