The ENOVIA PLM meant to target shorter cycle times

Dassault Systèmes intends for the ENOVIA PLM tool to enable more efficient product collaboration between designers and engineers, and, in turn, streamline product development.

Dassault Systèmes' ENOVIA is product planning and program management product lifecycle management (PLM) software. Dassault Systèmes' ENOVIA PLM tool enables internal and external collaboration, which in turn is intended to help manufacturing organizations reduce overall product development cycle time. The ultimate goal? Reduced time to market. The ENOVIA PLM application increases designer productivity and helps organizations identify issues early in the product design process. This early issue identification improves product quality and helps to eliminate bill of materials (BOM) errors. The ENOVIA application is powered by the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, which specializes in virtual creation and social collaboration capabilities on a single platform supporting 3D computer-aided design (CAD), document management, BOM management, change management and project management.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is also used for business processes and collaboration in areas other than manufacturing and design, such as marketing and sales. This gives organizations the flexibility to expand the functional coverage of their PLM system. In the on-premises version of 3DEXPERIENCE, sites use a 3DEXPERIENCE R2015x server that runs on the Windows operating system, and the ENOVIA client requires Windows 8.1 or 7 SP1 with Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. ENOVIA is also available as a private cloud or as a software as a service offering.

Dassault Systèmes' ENOVIA includes the essential PLM user roles required by every designer and engineer, such as:

  • A Platform Contributor that provides a set of collaboration applications for sharing, searching and managing intellectual property
  • Collaborative Innovation for the management of design, manufacturing and simulation of intellectual property
  • A Product Engineer function that aggregates input from all design and business disciplines into a single, enterprise-wide definition of engineering parts and engineering bill of materials (EBOM)
  • A Project Team Member function that provides a collaborative environment for all project team members to access, manage and report on their task assignments

On average, Dassault Systèmes delivers a new major release of the 3DEXPERIENCE once per year, with several minor releases in between. The current release, 3DEXPERIENCE R2015x, delivers numerous new ENOVIA capabilities. Chief among these updates is the enhanced user experience. The updates include a new product configurator for the simple selection of product options and compatibility checks. EBOM navigation has received a graphical update and is more intuitive and allowing for visual representation of the product. Program management has been simplified with product and project dashboards. The collection and analysis of project costs is a new functionality, and the mobile experience for the ENOVIA PLM application (available for Android and iOS) has been optimized.

Along with user experience updates, there are new converters and connectors. For expanded data openness with converters for AutoCAD, Dassault Systèmes' ICEM Surf and the platform-neutral Industry Foundation have all been added to the 3DEXPERIENCE design and engineering applications. Standard CAD connectors (Catia V5 and Solidworks) for entry-level data management are also included. Finally, the on-premises updates provide the capability for single sign-on and social collaboration.

Worldwide, over 15,000 customers and 1.3 million users across 12 different industries use ENOVIA. Client organizations range in size from ten to tens of thousands of users. ENOVIA's core industry users are in the transportation and mobility, aerospace and defense, and industrial equipment sectors. Additional industry sectors using ENOVIA include high tech, life sciences, consumer goods and retail, consumer packaged goods, architecture, engineering and construction, energy, process and utilities, and marine and offshore.

Dassault Systèmes sells its ENOVIA PLM software through its direct sales force and also through business partners. ENOVIA has several different licensing options. The most common is a one-time primary license charge for a perpetual license along with an annual license charge. A yearly license charge is also available. Licensing is based per person.

There are also additional pay-for Basis Support choices for ENOVIA. The first level of support that is available is Basis Secure, which gives clients access to the latest code updates and product tips from Dassault Systèmes experts. A second level of product support is Basis Advantage, which enables clients to submit non-defect requests and to call experts.

For planning and implementation, Dassault Systèmes offers Enterprise Support, which is a set of a la carte services that is available through an additional contract. The goal of Enterprise Support is to assist clients in system deployment so the product can be smoothly brought into production. E-learning, classes, certification programs and other customized training services are also available to clients at an additional charge. 3DS Industry Services and other Dassault Systèmes partners also offer consulting services that help clients identify potential areas for business transformation through the best practices, technology and methodology provided by the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Dassault Systèmes does not offer a free trial period for prospective clients to try its product. However, extensive product information is available on their website and a demo can be provided upon request.
