News roundup: Survey finds supply chain leaders are financial winners

In this week's news, read about Deloitte's newest supply chain study, Savi's new IoT sensor analytics and Epicor's release of ERP version 10.

Strong supply chains equal financial growth, Deloitte study says

A recent study conducted by New York-based professional services firm Deloitte found that companies with top-notch supply chain capabilities exhibit higher financial performance than the average organization. These companies displayed significant revenue growth and EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) measures.

The study showed that 79% of these "supply chain leaders" reported financial growth far above their competitors, while only 8% of companies with low-performing supply chains reported such growth. The companies with leading supply chains also embraced new technology, with 48% of them using 3-D printing "extensively."

Savi introduces sensor analytics for the IoT

Savi Technology, an Alexandria, Va.-based maker of sensor-based supply chain software and hardware, announced the release of Savi Insight this week. Insight is billed as the first cloud-based sensor analytics tool designed specifically for the Internet of Things (IoT). It collects data from sensors and machines and combines it with data from enterprise applications and outside data sources, such as social media and weather reports.

"Savi Insight recognizes relationships between assets and actions by combining the very complicated and unstructured world of sensor data with enterprise systems and third-party data," said Bill Clark, president and CEO of Savi. "It examines and explores those associations to create operational intelligence that organizations can use to improve efficiency, reduce risk and solve new problems."

Epicor launches ERP version 10

Austin-based vendor Epicor Software announced the release of Epicor ERP version 10 this week at its annual Epicor Insights user conference. The package, available on premises or as a hosted service, is designed to improve customers' social collaboration and mobile computing experiences while allowing for easier deployments, according to the company.

"Epicor ERP version 10 represents the evolution of our innovative technology platform to support today's business imperatives -- social collaboration, deployment flexibility, broad device accessibility, with ease of use and accelerated performance," said Malcolm Fox, vice president of product marketing at Epicor. "We've made a significant investment to deliver the next-generation of our efficient, high-performance business architecture, designed to provide our customers with competitive advantage from these advances in technology."
